LONDON, 15 May 2021 - Police and protesters clash at the gates of the Israeli embassy on Kensington high street following a mass demonstration in support of Palestine amid ongoing Israeli air strikes.
In May of 2021 Gaza endured a brutal 11 day offensive at the hands of Israeli military - the 4th major offensive launched in 14 years.
A barrage of airstrikes destroyed buildings across Gaza including a number of high-rise blocks. According to the Gaza Health Ministry 260 people were left dead including 39 women and 67 children and more than 1,900 wounded.
The violence was met with unprecedented international solidarity with protests around the world in support of the people of Palestine, including London, 15 May, which saw an estimated 150,000 - 200,000 people take to the streets.
The largely peaceful demonstration, which called on the UK Government to take immediate action, marched from marble Arch to the Israeli Embassy on Kensington High Street where there were several speeches and speakers including former Labor leader, Jeremy Corbyn.
Clashes erupted later in the day as police moved in to disperse crowds from outside of the Embassy. Police in riot gear were pelted with eggs, bottles and stones leaving nine officers injured. A total of 13 people were arrested.
