KILL THE BILL.
03 April, 2021, London
Thousands of demonstrators marched through central London as part of a Kill the Bill national weekend of action that saw protests in major towns and cities across the UK.
The term 'Kill the Bill' refers to a potential new piece of government legislation that, if passed, would give police more powers such as noise and time constraints when policing protests.
The march from Speakers Corner to Parliament was peaceful, however, a small minority splintered away from the main protest and blocked roads surrounding Parliament. Police moved in to disperse the crowd which lead to violent scuffles, pepper spray and batons were used as police seemed to be outnumbered. Scuffles continued into Trafalgar Square and finally along The Strand where police were apparently called to reports of weapons including large poles and blades. The group was eventually kettled and everyone inside arrested.
In total, 26 people were charged and 10 police officers were left injured.
