MARCH FOR FREEDOM
28 November, 2020
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered to protest against Englands lockdown and other government restrictions surrounding Covid-19.
The initial plan was to meet at Kings Cross station at midday, however, due to a strong police presence, the meeting point was moved to Angel station at the last minute, and then again to Marble Arch.
The crowd began to march fairly swiftly and made their way through central London, police began to then make arrests and separate the crowd into smaller sections, they succeeded and the demonstration became scattered. With the help of social media and private messaging platforms everybody made their way to Speakers Corner, Hyde Park.
Aware that being static for too long could result in being contained by police, word began to circulate of a plan to march, but before crowds could leave the park police moved in and blocked the exits; scuffles broke out as demonstrators tried to push through police lines. With their batons drawn, police pushed back the crowd and the order was given to leave the area or face arrest. Alternative exits were soon found and the march continued along Oxford Street.
Demonstrators chanted "Freedom!" and told shoppers to remove their masks, banged on buses and pulled barriers into the road in a bid to stop police vehicles.
